What was the last thing you had to search for? Keys? An important document? A piece of jewelry? Whenever we need to find something we begin looking in the most logical place, and expand our search from there until the missing item is located.
That’s a wise method when we’re missing our favorite pen, but what about when we’re looking for guidance on a big decision? Where do we look for answers when we feel perplexed or overwhelmed? In these cases a different approach is called for, in fact a different modality altogether is needed.
How does that work? Where do we begin?
When we are missing something from our physical world, we use our senses to search the space around us. However, when we are seeking guidance, direction, and answers to deeper questions, it is inside that we need to look. Yet typically, we outsource our answers by consulting friends, family, Google, our astrological chart, and more, but searching the outer world for those answers often leaves us confused or chasing solutions that aren’t really ours.
The last place we often look is within ourselves. Nowhere in our society are we taught to do this. We are taught that authority lies outside of us, in an off-planet God, or in those wiser than ourselves. However the truth is that we each have access to Divine guidance within us, we just need to look within.
What does that mean? How does one look within?
This doesn’t require any special skills or knowledge. Simply get quiet. Reduce the distractions around you. Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Breathe slowly and deeply. In the beginning, I recommend setting a timer for 5 minutes, as you develop the ability to be in stillness. As you quiet the outer world, you are more able to be aware of the gentle nudges of intuition available to you. Clarity and inspired ideas may not come to you in that exact moment, but they do come to you seemingly out of nowhere, when you’re doing other things – washing dishes, walking outside, driving a familiar route; in other words, things that don’t require your full attention.
Stop searching in the outer world for answers to life’s big questions. The guidance, the answers, lie within.
