Have You Made This Key Choice for 2020?

2020. The numbers that denote perfect vision, and the year we are heading into. It feels momentous. It feels significant, and I’m wondering if you have chosen your word for 2020?

What does it mean to “choose a word” for a new year? What difference does it make?

Choosing a word to represent what you envision for your life in the coming year is an important exercise. There is great power in setting a conscious intention for what you want. It brings into sharp focus what is important to you; it forces you to get clear, get specific, and be bold enough to state it.

To choose a word for the new year can make a tremendous difference for the life you experience. It is like a destination programmed into your GPS. It serves as your north star in making the daily choices and decisions that will shape how your experience materializes.

While I do not appreciate commercials or doctrines that are designed to instill fear in us, it does merit mentioning what might happen if you do not set a clear intention for the brand new year about to unfold: if we don’t set our clear intention and use that as a guide for how to proceed, it is very easy to lose focus and end up chasing a variety of different goals and employing various strategies, some of which could have nothing to do with what your heart is calling you to do, but are simply trending at the moment. We end up feeling like we are living someone else’s life, and that doesn’t feel satisfying or fun.

So what word appeals to you? Here’s a few ideas to get the ball rolling….

Is it simplify? Is your home or schedule cluttered with too many things? Are there events and obligations that don’t add value or enjoyment to your life? Is there ample space in your home that isn’t filled with “stuff?” Would your life feel lighter and more enjoyable if you literally and figuratively decluttered?

Is it self-acceptance? Are you tired of badgering yourself for perceived faults and unforgivable mistakes? It is no fun to live with that inner critic, always deriding us for what we do, or worse, for who we are. If this sounds familiar, perhaps self-acceptance would be a good word for you. Accepting ourselves doesn’t mean we are no longer interested in creating a better life, but rather that we deserve one.

Is it create or even recreate? Is there a song, book, business idea, or other project that has been lightly but persistently floating around in your mind? Or, do you feel pulled to make a change in your career, living circumstances or relationships? It can be daunting to recreate some aspect of your life, but also extremely fulfilling!

Is it boundaries? Do you struggle to speak your truth to others? Do you find yourself doing favors or jobs that you don’t have time for, but you’re afraid of offending someone? When these favors begin to take a toll on your peace and energy, setting healthy boundaries is key to changing that dynamic and living a life that has meaning for you.

There are so, so many possible words to choose: Travel, wellness, balance, play, and tons more! Listen to your heart or your gut (that sounds rude, but it’s often where intuition is felt), and don’t overthink it. Your higher self knows what would serve you best in the coming year.

My word for 2020 is Expansion. I launched my life coaching practice in 2019, and while I’m very happy with the way things are going so far, it’s time to branch out; be bold, take risks and expand into all I can be, and all Conscious Creating can be. 2020 is going to be a fabulous year. Let’s make it so!

If some support and encouragement would be helpful to you as you begin to create your new year, reach out to schedule a coaching session! I would love to fill that role for you and cheer you on to your successes!
