There is a cute desk piece that was given to me that displays the month, day and date. It’s rustic and charming, and though I’ve had it for over a year, just today I was struck by the words at the bottom of the square:
LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE
It sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Whether it is meant as an invitation, suggestion, or admonition, I’m not sure. As I sat for a moment taking it in, something about it didn’t quite ring true, or at least didn’t feel complete. As I contemplated the thought, it became clear to me what was missing. I am a big fan of the teachings of Abraham Hicks, and over the years I have come to understand that living the life you love, while admirable and a great goal, it is not the first step. In order to live the life you love, you must first
LOVE THE LIFE YOU LIVE
Perhaps it seems I am nit-picking here, focusing on details that don’t really matter that much, but if you’re familiar with the Law of Attraction, you see that switching the order of those two words makes all the difference.
It comes down to a matter of energy. It is not possible to create or manifest something wonderful if we despise our current situation. Abraham teaches that you can’t have an unhappy journey to a happy destination.
For instance, if you abhor the car you are now driving, feeling totally over it and hating everything about it, you might be able to acquire a new car, but soon you’ll be unhappy with that as well because your energy didn’t change. It sounds counterintuitive, but it’s true – you must first find something to appreciate or be grateful for in your current situation in order to create or draw something better to you.
Can you envision the living the life you love? Can you see in your mind’s eye the home you live in, the job you do, the activities you enjoy, how you look and feel?
In order to move toward that amazing life, it is necessary to first find as many aspects of your life situation that you appreciate, and there’s always something to appreciate.
Do you have the gifts of vision and hearing? Are there people that love you and that you love? Do you have resources to call on if needed? Are you able to get around on your own, walk, run, and carry out the activities of daily life independently? Do you have great friends? The more gratitude we feel for our current circumstances, the easier it is to attract the ideal ones.
We are wise to be grateful for what is, as we anticipate what’s coming. As you move toward the life you love, be sure to pause to appreciate and love the life you live.
