Goals and Visions

Have you given much thought to the difference between goals and visions? To be honest, I had not until a caller into the radio program inquired about the vision board class I offer. He asked, “Is the class about setting goals and sticking to them?” That simple question really brought into clear focus the difference between these two – between a goal and a vision – and how very different they truly are.

A goal is a state or circumstance we want to achieve: to lose 30 pounds, to organize our office, to reduce credit card debt, to become a certified yoga instructor. Goals are clear-cut and straightforward. There’s nothing ethereal about them. We know the steps that need to be taken to achieve the goal, and if we don’t, there are resources available to guide and support us. The steps to reach a goal may be lengthy or challenging to pull off, but they are knowable and doable. Create a plan and execute the plan. Boom. Goal achieved.

A vision, on the other hand, is everything ethereal. A vision is lofty and often not very specific. It might be having harmonious relationships, a fulfilling and lucrative career, to create your own business – or empire!, or a romantic romp around the world.

A vision has more to do with what our heart wants, than what our logical mind thinks is important or possible.

And here is where goals and visions really go their separate ways: with visions we have no earthly idea how to realize what our visions are. We might have an idea of some small initial steps we could take, but there is typically no clear path to manifest them. And that’s where the fun lies; where the Universe does its thing on our behalf, and that’s why vision boards are so magical and fun!

Actually, it is not magic that makes vision boards work, but science, hard science, but it feels absolutely magical when a vision you’ve been holding in your mind’s eye is suddenly in tangible 3D form right in front of you!

However, there is more to the process of creating a vision board than just cutting pictures out of magazines and gluing them on a poster board. It helps to get clarity on your visions, to understand the science behind what makes vision boards work in order to maximize the effect, and to discover and release the blocks and old stories that have kept your visions from materializing up to now.

If that sounds intriguing to you, I invite you to join me for the upcoming Vision Board Class. We meet via zoom on 4 consecutive Wednesdays, from 8:00 – 9:15pm EST, and go through each of the above mentioned steps in a way that will give flight to your dreams and visions and transform what you see is possible for you and your life experience. It’s a blast being a conscious creator!   Sign up here.
