Here we are again, at the turning of another year. 2019 has passed at what feels like supersonic speed and we’re facing the promise, challenges, and possibilities of 2020. It feels like a momentous time.
At this point many people begin making New Year’s resolutions; taking stock of where they are and what they want to change in the coming year. Some make vision boards to help draw into being the goals they have for themselves. And that’s great. As a health and life coach I’ve worked with many people and taught classes about creating vision boards and the benefit of gaining clarity on what you want for your life. All good.
Yet, there is another level that we can enter, in creating the coming year and fully embracing all it can be. In the recent past, I took a class on visioning from the inspiring spiritual teacher, Michael Beckwith. He explained the different levels of energy involved in creating in the following way:
The first level of energy is the “make it happen” level; where you see clearly in your mind’s eye what you want to manifest, and it’s full steam ahead to accomplish that goal. Create a plan and execute the plan. This form of energy can be very effective at getting things done and serves a real and valuable purpose at times in our lives.
However, there is a higher level of energy, that rather than making bold statements and charting a course, instead asks questions. These questions recognize and honor the Higher Self, or Source wisdom and guidance within us. This level of creating recognizes that our grandest visions can be small potatoes compared to what Source wants for us. Creating on this level signifies we are not relying exclusively on our own ideas, but look for guidance from Source with an open heart and mind.
The following is a beginning, but not an exhaustive list. Knowing your own unique situation, I’m confident you can come up with additional questions that reflect your place in your journey that would also be helpful, but here’s a good start:
- What people, ideas, or situations would I benefit from releasing this year?
- What long-held beliefs are holding me back from my highest good?
- What new idea, project, or creation wants to come through me?
- What would I take on if I knew I nothing real was at stake?
- How can I best be of service?
- What does my heart know that my brain is reluctant to see?
- What are the best ways to maximize my health and vitality?
- What new blessings are mine to manifest in 2020?
We live in a society that values answers more than questions, yet one of the most powerful steps you can take in your life is to ask the Universe, or God, or Source, or by whatever name you refer to the loving creative energy behind it all, what it wants for you in this coming year.
